The Fat Boy Online Review–Like a Bad Diet
Like a bad diet comes The Fat Boy, another short horror film that could have been a lot more with a little extra work, but just didn’t turn out the way anyone might have wanted.
Basically, we have the titular fat boy, beleaguered by bullies, bereft of friends, and in for the worst day of his life. When one of the aforementioned bullies starts chasing him around and yelling mockery at his retreating back, the bully finds himself on the bad end of a neck-breaking. He manages to get out a cry for help…but the fat boy isn’t paying attention. He’ll wish he had, though….
Seriously, this wasn’t a terrible short film, but it had a LOT of problems. There wasn’t a whole lot of resolution here–I have no idea why the bully got killed and if the fat boy did too. It’s not spoilering, folks–you won’t know either. Worse yet, there was this wind-based distortion coming off the mikes they were using. It sounded like a constant windy day and often obscured the dialogue.
The Screenhead Ten Scale, therefore, gives The Fat Boy a skinny three out of ten. Too many errors and not enough plot get in the way of hwat might have been an interesting idea. It sounds a lot better than it is, and it fails to satisfy in most every regard.
