The Spice is Life–Robert Pattinson Controls The Spice
If you’re not as freaked out as I am by the thought of Robert Pattinson playing Paul Atreides in the upcoming remake of Dune, then you’re a much, much stronger man–or woman–than I am.
Why am I freaking out? Simple. There’s not even the proverbial snowball’s chance that some putz whose biggest roles were a sparkly vampire and Cedric Freaking Diggory can handle the lead in a major sci-fi franchise film like Dune.
Dune is an institution. A really WEIRD institution, granted, but Dune is like the Hellraiser of science fiction. There have been so many versions–mostly books, granted–of this movie that it qualifies for franchise status. And to put the sparkly vampire emo boi in charge is downright insulting.
I just can’t see him tackling a big role in a genre he has no experience in. And besides–his big draw is to teenage girls. What teenage girl is going to want to sit through DUNE?
I’m not very pleased with this development at all. But maybe I’m overreacting.
oh, get over yourself. I read Dune back in college, and so far the movies of that glorious book have been sh*t.
Pattinson can act: witness his other rolls in indie movies “How to Be”, “Bad Mother’s Handbook” and “The Haunted Airman”. Sparkly vampire aside, the kid has chops.
I just hope that the new Dune movie is worthy.
I completely agree with mmy4est on this subject. Dune is a fantastic book but the last movie I encountered was lacking. Any book adaptation is going to be interpreted differently anyway; I did like the last film though. Pattinson is a phenomenal actor for his age, (judging his role in “Little Ashes” 2009). I cannot believe the kid is only 23? Amazing?
I am really excited to see what the remake will be like.
Bwah! Why are the fanboys so threatened by Robert Pattinson? LOL. Because of him you might actually be scoring with the girls for a change! You’ll have Dune to talk about then. See? You should be thanking him.
mmy4est and by extension crystal–what part of “no science fiction experience” is leaving you confused? Of course, if any of those indie films you mention WERE science fiction, I’d be happy to retract that previous.
Toyang–and that would work great except most of R-Pattz’s fans are, you know, underage?
