The House Online Review–Not As Bad As You Think

October 7th, 2009 in Horror, Movies, Reviews -

Well, when an online short horror flick starts publicly advertising itself as being “gore/horror”, you cringe a little inside to think that, oh boy, here’s another graduate of the Fake Blood Academy who’s going after a little more gore for gore’s sake.

And then you watch a movie like The House, and what you get is a movie that shows you what would happen if, at the very beginning, someone actually did the logical thing.

Four friends are out for a night of fun and partying in an old abandoned house belonging to one of the friends’ family.  But the house has a history that may kill them all.

There were a lot of unintentional laughs here, and yes, there was some blood involved, but nothing worth writing home about.  This is clearly the work of amateurs, but they did do something fairly interesting with it.  Just what, of course, I can’t tell you without spoilering, but suffice it to say that, when you watch this carefully, you’ll see what they did, and be at least kind of impressed.

The Screenhead Ten Scale, meanwhile, rewards effort if not necessarily success and hands this marginal amateur production a five out of ten.  They definitely tried, if nothing else, and they did manage to keep my interest for seven minutes.
