Avatar opened in approximately 2000 theaters last night for a midnight showing and took in $3.5 million, a strong start for James Cameron’s cinematic 3D sci-fi fantasy.

Many 3D locations hosted the midnight runs with a shot of securing the best in December performance.  Today matinees were selling out of late.  It doesn’t take a mystic to tell us an Avatar franchise is in the future.
