Dead Dark Online Review–Beautiful and Pointless
You know, when I took a look at YouTube for “zombie short film”, I discovered there were over twelve thousand of them out there.
Twelve. THOUSAND.
So how do they fare in terms of quality? Well, tonight we kick off with Dead Dark.
Dead Dark features a couple of survivors of the Zombie Apocalypse who find each other, and hear the undead hordes close in on their position, they do the only thing that makes sense–get them before they get got.
But is it a smart move?
Dead Dark isn’t the best zombie short you could find. In its favor, it’s got GREAT video quality–no grain or anything–and I can think of a LOT of films that would have been improved without looking like they were a transfer from a VHS cassette. But Dead Dark is somewhat lacking in the story department. We’re not sure how anything got started. We’re not sure why anything’s going on. And the ending makes the whole thing just a little extra pointless.
It’s never a good sign when the audience asks why did we even bother. That was the question that went through my mind.
So the Screenhead Ten Scale gives this good looking waste of four minutes a four out of ten. Nice try, guys–call me when you get something with a real plot.
