Giveaway — Michael Mann’s ‘Public Enemies’

On December 9th, 2009

publicenemiesdvdPublic Enemies is here as a two-disc Special Edition Blu-ray Hi-Def, two-disc Special Edition DVD, single disc DVD and digital download from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.  Starring Oscar nominee Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Oscar winner Marion, Public Enemies places you in the center of the fast and dangerous life of outlaw John Dillinger (Depp), whose cascade of heists, breakouts and charismatic press conferences captivated a nation and won him the heart of Billie Frechette (Cotillard) who went along for the ride.  Meanwhile, at the same time, he was being hunted nationwide by crime buster Melvin Purvis (Bale) and the FBI as the nation’s first Public Enemy No. 1.

In Public Enemies, director Michael Mann recreates Dillinger’s glory days with ferocious clarity in an explosive saga that also stars Billy Crudup, Steven Dorff, Stephen Lang, Channing Tatum, Emilie de Ravin and Giovanni Ribisi.

I watched the movie the other night and found Johnny Depp transformed as Dillinger and Christian Bale as Melvin Puris.  The authenticity of the period and locations of Mann’s filming is phenomenal.  The cast is unbelievably in rank and talent.

I must admit that I am surprised the film didn’t do better at the box office because the film is stunning scope of work.  Of course, we all know what happens at the end, but the irony of the movie Dillinger was watching before his fatal ambush – Manhattan Melodrama, starring William Powel , Clark Cable and Myrna Loy, about a gangster (Clark) who must face his own demise after being a harden criminal.

I was captivated by the movie and delve into the bonus features, discovering more information about Dillinger’s popularity and the public’s glorification of his dead body.

Screenhead has a Public Enemies Standard DVD as a giveaway.  Post your name and we will pick the winner Tuesday, December 29, 2009.

Carol (11) is the winner of Michael Mann’s Public Enemies. The movie is pure Johnny Depp playing Dillinger, an amazing story. I read quite a few of the entries that praised the director, movie and the actors, yet I am surprised that the movie didn’t fare well in the movie theaters.
