For those of you who might have been hoping to get a little more origin story action out of Ian McKellen’s Magneto, sorry–Brian Singer pretty much put the kibosh on such a concept.

The problem seems to be that Magneto will likely be getting some origin story action in the upcoming X-Men prequel, thus making a whole feature around Magneto‘s origin is a bit, well, superfluous.  Dig the word:

This story would probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto, so it might supersede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust.

And considering how spectacularly out of canon the Wolverine origin story was–Wolverine and Sabertooth were NOT brothers, at least not before a series of retcons made it vaguely possible–it’s probably for the best anyway.

Still, a little disappointing, but at least we’ll have the upcoming prequel to console ourselves.
