The Hoax YouTube Review-Almost Watchable
Going into this one I had some concerns–I’m really not happy about how much technical data they had in the description. Shouldn’t they be looking at the synopsis a little harder than what camera they used to film it?
Anyway, the movie describes itself as a “short film about zombie attacks”. And though the title makes sense in retrospect, the plot is a bit on the thin side. Basically, some guy comes home and starts reading a book, upside down for some reason, when his friend fakes a news bulletin about zombie attack. What happens from there might surprise you.
I’d like to take this moment and issue a special blanket reminder to filmmakers in general, and especially these guys. Shooting at night is all fine and well, but if you can’t see what’s going on, so much of the film is LOST. Seriously, this might have been good–the first thirty seconds or so are actually pretty funny, especially with that sweet vaulting sequence. But after that, it just kind of falls apart.
The Screenhead Ten Scale actually wishes it could give a better rating, but as almost two thirds of the movie is a big black blot, it’s got to go with a three out of ten.
