Well, folks, that’s the one great thing about writing about movie news–the news is constantly in flux.

Remember how we were talking, literally just yesterday, about how Tobey Maguire was actually looking to sign on with The Hobbit and play Bilbo Baggins?  Well, the word is now out that this is actually not going to happen any more.

The word comes straight from Maguire’s own publicist, who sat down with Movieline about the rumor, and in a thoroughly emphatic fashion declared that the rumor is, in fact, “false”.

Now, we’ve all heard THAT one before, haven’t we?  Excuse me if I’m not calling it game over yet just because some publicist denied it.  Because frankly, I seem to remember a whole lot of other publicists denying a whole lot of other news that turned out to be absolutely true.  Searching “publicists lie” on Google gets you half a million results.

So the jury’s still out on this one, folks–keep it here for all the latest.
