There are times when I wonder if, maybe, horror movies should be absolutely unviewable by anyone under the age of eighteen.  I know this is pretty hypocritical, given that I personally started when I was twelve, but even I know full well the overwhelming temptation to go forth and make your own horror flicks at a young age.

And with the sheer ubiquity of YouTube, these young filmmakers get a tailor-made opportunity to exhibit their work, and have it found by folks like me, who write about it and have to look like total dicks tearing it apart.

Anyway, today’s target is Zombie Hell Squad, which doesn’t make any sense since it seems to revolve around a chemistry student who decides to get revenge on his school for some reason by creating his own Zombie Apocalypse in a needleless syringe.    But it doesn’t go exactly according to plan, and leaves him in just as much danger as everyone else.

For a movie shot by half a dozen kids with no budget in their school, sadly, it’s still pretty weak.  There’s virtually no dialogue here, the dialogue that IS here is stilted and hackneyed (calling a fifteen year old kid “old man” just doesn’t work), and the rest of the movie makes precious little sense.

But still, everyone’s got to start somewhere, and for these kids, it’s their next film I hope to see.  This one gets a four out of ten, and all of that is for sheer unquestionable effort. On its merits alone this would get a one for being godawful sludge.   Good try, guys–with practice, you’ll get better.
