Zombie based short film on YouTube has proven to be a real mixed bag.  Some of them have been excellent.  Others, meanwhile, more like execrable.  Some hilarious, some sad, and some defying all classification have appeared on my computer monitor.  But today I’ve got what I think might be one of the better shorts on YouTube–Bitten.

Bitten joins three guys in the woods in what looks like the fairly early stages of Zombie Apocalypse.  One of them has clearly taken a profusely bleeding wound to the neck and the other two are trying to get him to safety even as they argue about his eventual likely fate.

Bitten isn’t a very good short film in isolation as it doesn’t have a really self-contained narrative.  Where Bitten EXCELS, however, is if it were a scene from a larger film.  This could be a terrific feature length title with this as a scene from same.  But as a short film, it just doesn’t work.  I have no real clue how anything got started, what they’re doing in the woods in the first place, what they’re trying to do, none of it.  I can make guesses, but that’s not the same.

The Screenhead Ten Scale, therefore, gives Bitten a six out of ten.  It’s some good stuff, and I’d love to see these guys go feature length, but as a short it’s got serious problems.
