Bullock on First Female List with ‘The Blind Side’

On January 5th, 2010

theblindsidephotoWho would have thought, Sandra Bullock beat Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts and Reese Witherspoon when her film, The Blind Side, hit $200 million this weekend at the domestic box. Bullock is the first female actress to lead a film to $200 million box office gross receipts, not a franchise or tentpole movie.

Don’t get me wrong, Sandra Bullock is very talented and I love her movies.  I think we were blind sided by the success of her latest movie.  Now, it’s finally sinking in that Bullock is a box office success.

Sure the other listed females hold their own like Roberts’ Erin Brockovich grossed $125.6 million domestically. Streep’s The Devil Wears Prada grossed $124.7 million.

Bullock formulated an extraordinarily successful year in a rather unassuming way. She brought us The Proposal, which was a success.  All About Steve might have thrown us off a bit because is wasn’t a big box office draw, so I don’t think we saw it coming. But still, it’s in the facts and even Quigley theater owners voted Bullock as the star who pulled in the most revenue for their theaters in 2009.

What is next for Bullock, an Oscar nomination?
