China Renames Mountain For Avatar Fans
When I first saw that I about lost it. But apparently it’s quite true–China took a mountain and renamed it for the many Avatar fans in China.
The Southern Sky Column, photographs of which were used as models for the Hallelujah Mountains in the movie, has been officially renamed the Avatar Hallelujah Mountains.
When asked WHY this went down, the Chinese government replied, essentially, that it was done to honor the movie, and because of the photographic connection.
Oh, and just in case you’re interested, they’ll be offering TOURS of the newly renamed Hallelujah Mountains.
Many have already suggested this and thus I echo their cynical notes–will this be where those Avatar depression cases will go to paint themselves blue and live out their Na’vi fantasies? I suppose stranger things have happened, but it takes Hollywood to help them along.
