DGA Nominations Announced!

On January 8th, 2010

62awrds-ffs-hdrKathryn Bigelow’s name is on another nomination list for The Hurt Locker. This is her first time to be nominated for the DGA Trophy.  I think, it’s great that a woman has been nominated; she’s the seventh woman. Lee Daniels, who directed Precious, is also honored for the first time and the first African-American to be nominated for feature-film. Another newbie is Jason Rietman for Up in the Air.   The other directors nominated are James Cameron for Avatar and Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds

Cameron won the DGA trophy in 1997 for Titanic, and Tarantino, a non-member of DGA, was nominated in 1994 for Pulp Fiction

If Bigelow takes the DGA trophy at the January 30, 2010, she would be the first woman ever win in the 62 years of DGA Awards.

The DGA’s award has corresponded with the Academy Award for best director in all but six years since 1948.

The DGA will reveal the remainder of its nominations tomorrow.

Spike Lee was never nominated? That’s a shame. And I don’t understand why Lee Daniels got a nom at all. Precious has some good performances but overall it’s one of the poorest films of the year in terms of its sloppy direction

Yes, Spike Lee has never been nominated. I have seen Precious. My schedule isn’t conducive to get to the film.
