Giveaway — Roger Corman’s Best of the B’s Collection

Roger Corman-Hot Bikes Cool Cars Bad Babes BOX ART

I’ve hooked up with producer, director and writer Roger Corman through his gloriously gratuitous guts and grit of the B-Movie genre in Presenting Roger Corman’s … Best of the B’s Collection 1: Hot Bikes, Cool Cars & Bad Babes. The DVD set is burning rubber on the streets. I strongly recommend that you watch these movies. Just because they have a ‘B’ after the title means nothing.   They are classics!

As you may know, on November 14, 2009 during the inaugural Governors Awards in Hollywood, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences presented a 2009 Academy Honorary Award to Corman for his rich engendering of films and filmmakers, recognizing a lifetime of achievement.

Known as “King of the Bs,” this prolific filmmaker both defines and rules the exploitation movie genre, beginning in the mid-1950s and continuing through today. A number of important and influential actors and filmmakers got their first big break from Corman, including such Oscar winners as Jack Nicholson, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Jonathan Demme and Ron Howard.

Let’s take a look at one of the movies available Best of the B’s Collection. In Hot Bikes, Cool Cars & Bad Babes, Corman tells the tale of hard-drinking anti-hero, outlaws, biker gangs, juvenile delinquents, hard women, immorality, heinous conduct, illegal road races, high-speed chases … and the ensuing tragedy!

Also, featured in this special four-disc collector’s set are way-cool wheels, groovy hep talk and such then up-and-coming stars as Jack Nicholson, Gary Busey, Ellen McRae (later known as Ellen Burstyn), Scott Glenn, Dan Hagerty, John Ireland, Dorothy Malone, Dixie Peabody and more!

I just finished taking a look at The Fast and the Furious with Dorothy Malone and John Ireland.  It’s a fun movie to watch with lines to die for – one liners that gut roll with dry wit. I realized Corman had a formula and it worked.  Filmmakers today could learn from Corman’s simple but effective filmmaking.

The DVD set includes seven digitally remastered, full-length feature films: The rarely seen Naked Angels (1969) and Bury Me an Angel (1971), on DVD for the first time. Also The Fast and the Furious (1954), The T-Bird Gang (1959), The Wild Ride (1960), The Winner (1967/later known as Pit Stop) and Angels Hard as They Come (1971/Screenplay by Jonathan Demme).

I must mention the DVD set contains special features classic Corman’s trailers and drive-in ads. They are a hoot!

Screenhead has four of Presenting Roger Corman’s … Best of the B’s Collection 1: Hot Bikes, Cool Cars & Bad Babes for giveaway.  Post your name and we will pick the winners Tuesday, February 16, 2010.
