Golden Globes Highlights
I didn’t catch much of The Golden Globes last night, but I did get the highlights from Variety and THR. If you want the complete low-down, I suggest you go to Golden Globes website. You will find enough information to keep you busy for hours.
To me the biggest surprise was Avatar winning best motion picture and best director of motion picture. I think James Cameron was a bit surprised, too, because he said so in his acceptance speech. He referred to his former wife, director Kathryn Bigelow, of The Hurt Locker was supposed to win.
The reason I felt Avatar was a surprise because I didn’t think it was a movie that wins awards. Why? Avatar is too much techno-gizmo, like Spielberg movies, where the message of the film gets lost in the splendor of it all.
I am delighted to see Sandra Bullock won best actress for The Blind Side and Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart.
The next big award ceremony is, of course, the Oscars coming in February and this month we’ll find out about the nominations. I will find it interesting to see how Avatar fares in the Oscar evolution.
