Mel Cameo in Fury Road? Not Likely

On January 20th, 2010

Mad MaxSo you’ll remember when, not so long ago, we were positing the possibility that Crazy Mel might be showing up in Mad Max, doing at least a cameo.  Well, I think we all thought that would’ve been at least kind of cool, a shout-out to the previous installments.  He didn’t need a BIG part, just A part, to do the job.

Well, that’s not to be, or so says Mel himself in an interview with Dark Horizons:

“It’s his franchise. It’s his to do with as he wishes and I’m looking forward to seeing it. Good luck to him.”

Classy move, Mel–but really, I think most of us are feeling for you on this one.  Come on, folks, weigh in!  Show a little love for the original Mad Max here!  It’s not like it would’ve been that big a deal; make Mel like a desert trader or something.  It would’ve been the class move to make, but at least Mel kept his own cool on this score.

It would definitely be a tip of the hat to Mel to have him in the remake in some capacity, but if not I just hope said remake captures the intense car chases and creative termination of the last bad guy like the first one did. Really, ankle cuffing a guy to a car, rigging it to blow up then tossing him a hacksaw? THAT is cold cruel REVENGE….

Of course they gotta have that cool black interceptor too. Another ode to the original would be if it was an Aussie version of the Mustang. They haven’t made Falcons for years now, right?
