Plagued YouTube Review–Don’t Be Afraid Of This One

January 28th, 2010 in Actors, Horror, Movies, Reviews -

Fear, folks…it’s everywhere. In our video stores, in our newspapers, on our televisions, everywhere.

And thus, that’s why the short film Plagued exists.

Plagued serves up a bit of short film glee about a zombie apocalypse done in the mockumentary style.  Their stated goal here–stated right in their introduction section–is to “create a comical undertone”, which is a complete failure.  Zombies aren’t funny unless you’re doing funny things TO them.

Plagued is interesting in that it does a very good job of setting something much bigger up, but by the time you get to the point where you wonder just what that something is, suddenly, we’re done.  That’s it.  Movie over.  I remember thinking how much I’d like to see this preface an actual zombie movie, or be part of the special features.  This is good stuff, it just doesn’t go nearly far enough.

Thus, the Screenhead Ten Scale gives this one a five out of ten for doing a great job but not capitalizing on its successes.  This short feels woefully incomplete, and could have done a lot more given the opportunity.
