Well, now, this is a happy bit of news.

For those of you not familiar with the annual Texas bacchanal of cinematic goodness that is the South By Southwest film festival, it’s a terribly big deal.  A lot of big new pieces have been discovered there, and guess what’s headlining this year’s?

Okay, so you already know what’s headlining by dint of actually reading the headline, but the answer to that obliquely-stated question is Kick-Ass.

Yes, the triumphant return of the super hero genre–and ironically, one that shows where Disney’s getting its money’s worth as Kick-Ass is actually a Marvel title–is kicking off one of the United States’ biggest film festivals.  This is terrific news, as we were all hoping that Kick-Ass would wind up as more than some kind of castoff that Lions Gate et al kind of forgot about until it was supposed to premiere.

Admittedly, I haven’t seen many ads for it beyond the trailer, but headlining at SXSW (the common abbreviation for South By SouthWest, in case you’re wondering) is ad enough for most anyone’s needs.
