The Orphanage Remake Coming Soon Under Mark Pellington
Mark Pellington!
…Pellington?
Okay, for those of you who are looking baffled at their monitors right now, relax. I’ll talk you down.
For those of you who know who Mark Pellington is already, you’re going to need a moment to stop freaking out anyway, so bear with me.
Mark Pellington, you see, directed Henry Poole Is Here–which almost nobody saw and those few who did generally did not approve–and The Mothman Prophecies, which a few people saw and did not specifically hate.
Basically, to borrow an obscure anime reference, this is about like handing over the keys to the Mach 5 to Chim-Chim. Especially after earlier reports had Larry Fessenden handling the directorial duties–when was he removed?
The guy’s filmography is sparser than a maple tree’s leaves in December. So how did he land this role? Frankly, I’m not sure. But considering that Guillermo Del Toro will also have at least some involvement, this may not be a complete disaster.
I emphasize, of course, the word “may”. Basically, Pellington hasn’t done much either way to suggest that this will end well or fail graphically. So we’ll just have to wait and see.
