The Road Director’s Next Project Gets Potholed
Hee…don’t you love road puns? Oh come on–clearly you’ve never lived in a state where the only two seasons there are are Winter and Road Construction.
But that’s okay, this isn’t about cheesy jokes. This is about movie news.
And the word is that John Hillcoat, who directed post-Apocalyptic chick flick par excellence The Road, is getting his next project poleaxed like a steer gone bad. He was working on an adaptation of the novel The Wettest County In The World that would have been called The Promised Land, but due to the collapse of the film production firm that bankrolled The Road (they’re down to ONE EMPLOYEE, folks–that’s a dark sign if ever I heard one), they’ve got no cash in which to do it.
Naturally, Hillcoat took the opportunity to decry the industry, saying that this was the start of a “great divide” in which only indie films without budgets would compete against ridiculously overbudgeted Hollywood crapola, in so many words.
And he’s probably right, but about five years too late. Dude, get over yourself–this “great divide” didn’t start with you. I know–I got my start covering direct to video movies and continue to do so to this day.
So please spare us all your burgeoning persecution complex–the great divide has already divided.
