Zelda Rubenstein, 76, Dies of a Heart Attack

January 29th, 2010 in Actors, Horror, News -

Tragic news for you today, folks, especially if you happen to be a horror buff.

One of the scariest voices in horror movies, belonging to a sweet little old lady, passed away yesterday following an extended hospitalization due to heart attack.

Rubenstein was most famous for her role as Tangina Barrons in the Poltergeist series, a clip from which we have below.  You’ve got to love YouTube.

But she wasn’t just a big deal in an eighties horror flick.  She had an extensive career that covered television and film, and gave us plenty of creepy fun in the fantastic film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon.

The entire industry should be feeling the loss at this point, because a gifted actress was lost.  The horror community, I know, is feeling it, and though she left behind no surviving relatives or family, she surely left several close friends and a whole lot of fans.

Rest in peace, Zelda Rubenstein, and may your creepy, scratchy voice continue to echo through our dreams.

How very sad, I remembered her from the Poltergeist movie, a sad day indeed.

That it is, Paul…that it is. She was a terrific actress–we needed more like her.
