Back To the Small Screen For Stephen King
Stephen King! Chances are that’s a name you haven’t heard lately, mostly because in a world of huge budgets and gigantic blockbusters, King is the steady purveyor of lower-scale material. Interestingly, twenty years or so ago King was regarded as the penultimate master of horror, though today, the shine has come off the crown somewhat, but he’s still in there swinging.
And the SyFy channel (I STILL hate that name) has announced plans to convert his novella The Colorado Kid into a series called Haven. Casting has even been announced, somewhat, and is set to feature Emily Rose as an FBI agent investigating murder in the town of Haven in–where else?–Maine.
Haven, you might remember, is famous for being home to a gigantic alien space vessel contained with a race of long-dead psychic vampires that turn people into supergenius inventors as long as nothing they make runs on alternating current. Yes, that’s basically the plot of King’s The Tommyknockers.
Still, King’s stuff has always been at least pretty good–some much better than others–so this is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
