Disney’s Next Push For A High School Musical: Prom
Prom, folks. It reawakens memories long-dormant in most all of us. Just about everybody managed to get a date and make it out to their junior or senior prom–even I, who was de facto king of the geeks back in the day, managed to attend THREE of them and almost would have had a fourth had it not been for a complication of scheduling.
And Disney’s going to take another stab at that oh-so-lucrative kiddie market by coming out with Prom, a movie in which nine high schoolers prepare for that night of nights.
There’s some word that Prom will be a bit more…ahem…MATURE than High School Musical, which was almost Puritanical in its modesty (Do you think any of the Wildcats had even HEARD of “underage drinking”? Or would they all just look at you blankly for a minute and then say “sure, I drink all the time. I can’t get enough wholesome skim milk, unless I’m feeling naughty. Then I break out the TWO PERCENT!”).
But chances are, Disney being Disney, they’re not going to go any too far with this and will keep it about as light and airy a confection as High School Musical was.
Joe Nussbaum is slated to direct, but Disney doesn’t even know how they’re going to pay for it or who’ll be in it, so there’s definitely no release date on this yet. But keep an eye out, folks, this might be Disney’s OWN Next Big Thing.
