Dueling Docs–Twilight Documentaries Go To Court

On February 10th, 2010

OldCourthouseWow…let me preface this article by saying that, if it weren’t for the legion of Twilight fans out there I totally wouldn’t be talking about this.  But we love our Twifans here–there are a surprising lot of you, after all–just as much as we love everybody else.  So feel the love and listen to my story about a pair of dueling Twilight documentaries.

Twilight in Forks: The Saga of the Real Town, which to its credit was the first Twilight documentary to deal with the actual town of Forks, Washington and its role in the Twilight fandom, is apparently leveling a lawsuit against the folks behind Forks: Bitten By Twilight, Topics Entertainment.

The folks behind Twilight in Forks, which is interestingly enough Summit itself, is suing because it believes that Topics’ documentary is entirely too similar to their own documentary.

Of course, when you actually look at the two, especially at the box art (I personally prefer Topics’ design, so I find myself wondering how much of this is the sour grapes of an overfunded bully), you find a lot of similarities but public domain similarities.

Is Summit claiming they have some kind of copyright on pictures of trees?

I don’t know about you, folks, but I don’t find this exactly looking good for Summit.  They’re coming off very badly on this one, trying desperately to protect “their property” and going to lengths that are entirely unfounded.
