James Cameron passed his own domestic box office record today with Avatar hitting $601.2 million. The former top money-maker, Titanic, completed its theatrical run in 1998 with $600.8 million in U.S. and Canadian dollars.  

Do the math and it is official. The 3D phenomenon is now the top box office money-maker of all time in North America.

Sure, the increase price per ticket does factor in to the whole score.  But I wouldn’t discount the success because it is impressive.

If you look at movie admissions or overall ticket sales of all time, Gone With the Wind still hold the record for the most ticket sales at 202,044,600.
