National Lampoon’s Vacation Reboot??

On February 12th, 2010

trucksterWell this is a shot of happy news, possibly…seems that doin’s are a-transpirin’ in the direction of a National Lampoon’s Vacation reboot.

Interestingly enough, Chevy Chase will be back, but this time as, get this…Grandpa Clark.

National Lampoon’s Vacation:  The Next Generation?  Color me all sorts of enthusiastic about that!  And better yet, they’ve got writers hired, none other than John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.  You might remember John Francis Daley from his short-lived run on the equally short-lived Freaks and Geeks.

The new line is supposed to involve Rusty, now a young family man, as he plans a vacation of his own to Wally World.  You’d think that he remembers how disastrous his own family trip to Wally World was, and plans accordingly, but in all likelihood he’ll have a whole new set of horrors to face down, possibly with help from the wildly experienced Grandpa Clark.  This makes me question the validity of calling it a reboot anyway–looks more like a sequel to me.

One chunk of bad news, though, is that this will not be National Lampoon‘s Vacation, because of rights issues with the National Lampoon brand.  Never mind that National Lampoon hasn’t exactly done much of anything WITH its brand in the first place.  But still…the Griswolds back for more?  Beats SOME reboot ideas I’ve heard lately….
