Scott Pilgrim Takes On The World This August

Stop me if you’ve heard this one.

Michael Cera plays a role where he secretly lusts after some hot girl who turns him down at first, but after a while he grows on her and…

…why are you waving? Oh, wait.  You HAVE heard this one before.  In fact, you’ve heard this one in PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING MICHAEL CERA’S EVER DONE.

Arrested Development kicked it all off with Maeby.  Then we went on from there into Juno (in which he kind of got the girl), then Nick and Nora’s Ultimate Playlist and Youth In Revolt and even Year One had this EXACT same plot element.  So it’s not much of a surprise he’ll be doing the exact same thing with Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

Of course, this one might be a bit different, as the original comic book for Scott Pilgrim has Scott taking on a girl’s various evil ex-loves to land her affections, and watching Michael Cera actually fight for a change might be entertaining.

But I maintain my earlier suggestions.  Someone needs to make this guy a serial killer and do it like YESTERDAY.  Something other than this same role he constantly finds himself in.

However, we’ll get to see how the Scott Pilgrim thing works out this August, when it hits theaters.
