Why there probably won’t be that Magneto X-men Origins Movie
As we reported earlier, Patrick Stewart has no plans to be in X-men: First Class. When I read that, I said: “hey, are they making another X-men prequel? I thought they were going to do one with Magneto.”
Unfortunately, Bryan Singer, the director of the first two X-men films, says that probably won’t happen. He is rumored to do this X-men: First Class movie, and honestly, I wouldn’t want anyone else. I don’t know about you, but I could stand that X3: The Last Stand.
It is too bad that they are not considering a Magneto movie. In all honesty, I was captivated by a Magneto movie when I first saw the original X-men back in 2000. I always thought that there was some sort of long drawn-out yet interesting backstory that one could easily make a whole movie out of, just as they did Wolverine. I then thought it through one day, and realized why a Magneto movie would not work.
You see, this movie would begin as two friends get together and promise to make a better world. Unfortunately, one of them sees “a better world” as one that is not safe for democracy, and gives into his dark side. Eventually, the two of them have a huge battle and part company to become mortal enemies.
Sound familiar? Of course it does. You paid your hard-earned cash to see that story in the Star Wars prequels. It only somewhat worked there, so why would Hollywood do it again?
It’s a real shame, because I was looking forward to seeing the scenes where Professor X and Magneto meet for the first time. Then the effects sequence as Magneto builds Cerebro, the Danger Room, and all the rooms underneath the mansion. Then the training of the students like Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm. And of course, the final battle, wherein Professor Xavier is put in a wheelchair.
Well, maybe they’ll work this story into X-men: First Class. Other wise, I don’t see a plot for this movie.
