“Alice” puts “Oz” projects on the fast track
It would appear that the success of Alice in Wonderland has inspired Hollywood to remake The Wizard of Oz story. Yes, I wouldn’t try it either. I mean, I like the 1939 version. Why would you remake it?
There are apparently two Oz projects that are in development. One of them is under development by Twilight producers Temple Hill and the screenwriter of the upcoming Shrek film, and the other is sort of sequel to The Wizard of Oz with Dorthy’s granddaughter. The quasi-sequel, which is formula of Disney’s Alice film, would be produced by Basil Iwanyk (Clash of the Titans) and even Todd MacFarlane, creator of Spawn. Weird.
To make matters more interesting, Disney wants to develop a project known as Brick. A prequel to Oz that would feature the Wizard, and how he came to rule the Emerald City. And why isn’t Wicked being made into a movie yet?
