Angela Bassett Becomes A Doctor In ‘Green Lantern’

March 25th, 2010 in Action, Actors, Movie News, Movies, The Movie Biz -

As a well-established actress, Angela Bassett is certainly no stranger to portraying the role of a doctor in film or television. You may remember the role she played as Dr. Cate Banfield during the 2008-2009 season of ER.  However, now she’s about to enter the realm of the comic book movie genre.

Since her last film, Notorious, Bassett has signed on to play Dr. Amanda Waller in the comic book film Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell.  Fans of DC Comics might recall that Waller had the job of overseeing a group of supervillains called the Suicide Squad.  This supervillain team worked for the government on the condition of being set free after their faithful service was completed.

Currently, there’s no official word confirming that the Suicide Squad will appear in this movie, which is scheduled for release in 2011.  The possibility of sequels starring Bassett as Dr. Waller also remains an unanswered question and DC Comics Universe Films is producing the film.  Ryan Reynolds will be starring in the movie as the hero and title character himself, Green Lantern and the cast includes other familiar names such as Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Tim Robbins.  Bassett is also currently preparing to direct her first film, United States, based on Percival Everett’s Erasure.
