godzillaIt’s been twelve years since the Godzilla movie starring Matthew Broderick, was released in theaters.  This ’90s version of the infamous B-monster originally created by Toho Company isn’t really considered a successful adaptation, even though the movie made about four million dollars upon its release.  However, now Godzilla will be given another chance to prove himself on the big screen.

The production for this film reboot has been launched by Legendary Pictures.  Of course, this is the studio that’s bringing the upcoming film, Clash Of The Titans to theaters this week.  Legendary Pictures stated that this new movie for Godzilla will not be a sequel to the 1998 film.  Instead, this new film is intended to be more closely based on the original Godzilla movies as a reinvention of the movie monster series.

Legendary Pictures plan to name a director for the film project in the near future and currently intends for a 2012 release.  The production and financing of this movie will be done in a partnership deal with Warner Bros.  Furthermore, the Toho Company will distribute the film in Japan after it is completed.
