How is that Life of Pi movie going?
It has been over a year since we reported that director Ang Lee is helming the film adaptation of Life of Pi, but I have hardly heard anything about it since then.
I suppose the reason why I bring this up is because I am currently listening to Yann Martel’s award-winning novel on CD, and I find it to be unique and amazingly beautiful in its simplicity. According to Imdb.com, only the first draft of the screenplay has been finished. I can see why it is taking them this long to come up with a first draft.
If you aren’t familiar with the story of Life of Pi, it is about a man from India who is trapped on a lifeboat with a tiger. Yes, I probably wouldn’t want to film that either, unless I had some serious CG technology on my side. Other than that, the story is like those scenes in Cast Away where Tom Hanks just drifts on a raft.
Can I give you some advice? Drop this project. Seriously. I don’t think that the final outcome will be what you expect, unless you seriously alter the story. Unless you can get a screenplay that really conveys what this book was trying to say, then you should probably cut your losses.
