Kill Theory Movie Review–A Creepy Slasher Surprise
So we’re back to the After Dark Horrorfest for today’s target, Kill Theory–which was sent by Lions Gate following a brief period in which we got some other stuff covered.
Kill Theory joins a group of kids off for a weekend of booze and promiscuity, as is generally what kids in groups are off for. But, as we all probably saw coming, the fun and games do not last for long, and the problem shows up.
Of course, in this case, the problem is a random serial killing lunatic who, instead of carving up a bunch of drunk and horny college kids, insists that the kids kill each other, with the caveat that, should they follow his instructions, one will survive the night. The remaining kids, meanwhile, will not. And what this means is that there’ll be a whole lot of killing going on, only not where you expect it to be.
And that is what’s so interesting about Kill Theory. It’s a slasher movie, only this time around, the VICTIMS are doing their OWN slashing. The killer, meanwhile, is only putting them in a position to kill each other by threatening to kill them. And, of course, setting out a series of traps designed to keep them in place to do the killing.
The result is a highly unconventional slasher film that does the job very, VERY nicely. Kill Theory is both very similar to and highly different from most any other horror film, which is what’s so surprisingly good about it.
The surprises in here are also a treat, and there are plenty of them, besides. Especially the last three minutes or so–they will pose a terrific twist.
The Screenhead Ten Scale gives Kill Theory an eight out of ten for being an excellent addition to the After Dark Horrorfest, and both an unconventional and highly effective slasher movie.
