Quentin Tarantino and Miramax sued for plagiarism

425.tarantino.quentin.ingloriousbasterds.lc.121409Quentin Tarantino looks a little bit upset in this photo. It’s not because Inglourious Basterds didn’t win the Oscar, but he’s been hit by a plagiarism lawsuit.

Apparently, Dannez Hunter wrote a treatment in 1999 with a character named Ren Short, a man who comes from samurai heritage and saw his mother killed “in a cartoon format”.

Yes, the does sound like the backstory of O-Ren Ishii, Lucy Liu’s character from Kill Bill. Her parents’ murder was told in a cartoon format.

Dannez Hunter never heard back from Miramax after 1999, but I’m not certain if this means that his idea was stolen. However, I would have to wonder why it took him so long to bring up the lawsuit.
