Previous reports about the cast of the upcoming Smurfs movie stated that the wife of Neil Patrick Harris’ character in the film would be played by Glee’s Jayma Mays.  However, new sources indicate that Mays is actually not in the Smurfs movie after all.  The part of Harris’ wife will be portrayed by Sofia Vergara, known for her role as Gloria on ABC’s comedy hit, Modern Family.

According to Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Vergara will take the role of Odile, a powerful executive at a high-end French cosmetics company who is married to the live-action character played by Neil Patrick Harris.  However, Vergara has also signed on to be in another animated film project, Happy Feet 2. Vergara will be lending her voice for this upcoming movie, though her role in it remains unknown at this time.

For Happy Feet 2, Vergara will be joining a cast that includes Brad Pitt, Robin Williams, Elijah Wood and Hank Azaria, who’s also in the Smurfs movie with Vergara.  There is speculation that Vergara could be portraying a sexy role in Happy Feet 2. Both of these animated films are scheduled for release in 2011.  The Smurfs will come out in August, followed by Happy Feet 2 in November.
