More Details Emerge About Inception
In a summer that consists of tired sequels, reboots, and poor genre mash-ups, there only seems to be one truly original film coming out. Inception is an original idea by Christopher Nolan, the man behind films like Memento and The Dark Knight. Very little was known about the project at first, besides that Leonardo Di Caprio was starring and there was a fascinating teaser that told us very little but showed the style of the film. It looked like a sci-fi noir with a hint of surrealism, and we were left for some time to guess what all this was about. Until now.
In an interview with the LA Times, who joined Nolan on set last year, we get insight into the broad plot. Di Caprio plays a spy, but not just an ordinary one. His job is to steal the ideas of entrepreneurs… by entering their mind. As a corporate spy he drugs businessmen and applies a dontraption to their heads before leaping inside to extract any useful information. So, it seems from the teaser that all those rooms and corridors that spin around like a giant play-maze are the setting of someone’s unconscious. It’s an intriguing idea, and reminds me of the works of Haruki Murakami, especially Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.
Other cast members of the film include Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Di Caprio’s assistants, as well as Marion Cotillard and Cillian Murphy.
Expect more precious information ot appear over the following weeks, as a variety of titillating trailers are released. The film comes out in the US on July 16th.
