Sebastian Stan Will Play Bucky Barnes In ‘Captain America’
Now that the role of Captain America has finally been filled for the patriotic hero’s return to the big screen, another casting issue needed to be resolved for the upcoming film. Since Chris Evans scored the part of the title character, who would be chosen to play Bucky Barnes, Cap’s faithful sidekick? Well, that question finally has an answer.
Sebastian Stan has been given the supporting role of Bucky Barnes for The First Avenger: Captain America. In the comics, Bucky became an orphan when he was a teenager. Although he wanted to join the U.S. Armed Forces, he didn’t meet their age requirement. So, he had to settle for serving as a mascot on an army camp. That’s when he stumbled upon Steve Rogers and learned his superhero identity.
Thus, as any diehard fanboy would do in his position, Bucky joined the legendary avenger as his partner and together they fought the Nazis during some of Cap’s exploits. But then tragedy struck when Barnes was killed during World War II. However, as any comic book fan knows, most characters won’t stay dead for too long. Bucky was brought back in 2002 and operated as a hitman calling himself the Winter Soldier, but Barnes eventually came out about his true identity.
Currently, there’s no word to confirm whether or not Bucky will die during the film and return as the Winter Soldier. Nevertheless, Stan himself agreed to do sequels in his contract with Marvel. Marvel seems to have made this a standard for actors signed on for their film projects featuring their major characters. So, we can probably count on seeing more of Bucky long after The First Avenger comes out in theaters.
