He’s come a long way since the wise-cracking kid of 3rd Rock From the Sun. Yes, Joseph Gordon-Levitt seemed to have disappeared a few years ago, but he is now emerging as one of Hollywood’s hottest talents, and may even be rewarded with a role in one of the most eagerly-awaiting blockbusters.

Rumors are abound that Levitt is in line to play The Riddler in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sequel to The Dark Knight. At least, that’s what Hollywood Life reported earlier in the week, with a source saying that Nolan is impressed by the rising actor, who is starring alongside Leonardo Di Caprio in the upcoming sci-fi heist flick Inception.

But then again, there has been no confirmation on any plot details of the film, including who the villain will be. So we may not even see The Riddler at all. However, if any actor deserves a chance at besting Heath Ledger’s mesmerizing performance as Joker, it’s Levitt. Since 3rd Rock from the Sun Levitt has appeared in a lot of indie pics, but excellent performances in the likes of Brick and Mysterious Skin (as well as last year’s Oscar-nominated 500 Days of Summer) has more than proven that he deserves a shot.
