Mad Max Reboot Making Progress

June 29th, 2010 in Action, Actors, Movies, Remakes, Sci-Fi -

For fans of the cult classic Mad Max, today’s news may distraught them. While it’s not surprising to see the never-ending slate of reboots slowly get lost in development hell, it looks like a Mad Max reboot is certainly going to happen. This week saw actor Tom Hardy (Bronson, Inception) speak a little more about the project.

Hardy confirmed in an interview with First Showing that the film is indeed a reboot and not a sequel, with Hardy taking on the role of Mel Gibson’s character, providing a “re-take on the entire world using the same character, depositing him in the same world, but bringing him up to date by 30 years”. Not much more is on offer in terms of plot, but we can expect a retelling of the Mad Max origin story. Hardy also said that while the film will contain CGI, it will be more live-stunt based, much like how Christopher Nolan makes his films.

The original director George Miller is back to direct, but the whole project sounds like a dud. Mad Max was a success because it was at the right time at the right place, and even though the environmental aspect could be explored further, forgive me if I act a litle cynical towards yet another cash-in reboot.
