Hobbit Casting News–A Doctor Who To Play Radagast?

August 30th, 2010 in Action, Actors, Book-to-Movie, Books, Box Office, Fantasy, Movies -

And one more piece of casting news comes in–we just finished saying that The Hobbit may not be as dead as previously imagined, and we may have just a bit more proof that that’s in fact the case with a bit of casting news.  Seems that a former Doctor (which refers to Doctor Who, of course) may be stepping in to play the wizard Radagast. We’re talking Sylvester McCoy, and for longtime Doctor Who fans, that’s huge news.

Sylvester McCoy–the Seventh Doctor–is looking to come in for The Hobbit to play admittedly a minor character, Radagast the wizard, who possibly was turned into a moth and set loose to fly around in Saruman’s chambers back in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

It’s minor, sure, but McCoy’s a good pick.  He was actually the original choice to play Governor Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl before a conflict between Disney and original director Stephen Spielberg shut it down, and the Seventh Doctor was actually voted in as the best version ever in recent polling.

So Radagast may not be a big deal, but Sylvester McCoy can handle it nicely.
