Darker and Edgier is a TV Tropes favorite, folks, and basically details how a movie or show can get attention by adding more sex and violence. Of course, when your baseline is a horror flick, you often don’t have much room for more sex and violence without going into full bore parody.  So, in my experience of having followed and written about horror movies for the last couple decades now is that, when a horror flick wants to get Darker and Edgier, they bring in the pointless blasphemies.

Enter the new international poster for M. Night Shyamalan‘s (I’ll pause for the groaning and booing to die down) upcoming poster Devil.

Ladies and gentlemen, Darker and Edgier. Now featuring inverted cross. Okay, granted, there’s a note of necessity here–after all, this IS a movie about the devil–but still, in the poster?  Seems a bit like overkill.

Will Devil be the first good Shyamalan movie we’ve seen since Signs?  Keep it here, folks, you know I’m gonna smack this one up myself.
