David O Russell Ditches Regency Zombies for Old St. Louis
Did anyone honestly think it would happen? As much as the film geeks love zombie flicks, did they honestly think an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies would work? As amusing as the title is, that’s all the movie really is (think Snakes on a Plane). And even though the film was looking to get produced, the bottom has fallen from underneath it.
Director David O Russell (who many remember more from this video than his I Heart Huckabees movie) was lined up to direct the oddball movie with Natalie Portman to play the Elizabeth Bennett role (Portman would also produce). But according to Vulture scheduling conflicts forced Portman out of the project, and soon Russell departed, filling his time with Old St. Louis, a film about a travelling salesman who meets his estranged daughter. The film is to star Vince Vaughn and rising starlet Chloe Moretz.
So what of P&P&Z? Let’s hope the genre mashup remains in the grave.
