Aronofsky Accepts Wolverine 2, Eyes Machine Man
Probably one of the most exciting American directors at the moment, a few weeks ago we reported that Darren Aronofsky was offered to directed blockbuster sequel Wolverine 2. Despite my hopes that he wouldn’t take on a follow-up to one of the most brainless comic-book movies of all time, according to Deadline he has sealed the deal. Then again, for 5 million dollars I’d direct anything that was offered to me. Let’s hope he uses his money sparingly and doesn’t have to make another throwaway movie again.
But Aronofsky seems to be a fast mover, and has signed up to yet another project. We already reported that he’s interested in making The Tiger with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but there’s more to the director’s slate. According to Deadline Aronofsky has signed on to make an adaptation of the yet-to-be-published novel Machine Man, by Australian writer Max Barry. The story is about a man who gradually replaces his body parts with machine parts. Already you can see the associations with Robocop, a film Aronfosky was set to remake until MGM hit financial troubles. The interesting thing about Barry’s book is that it’s currently being published for free, with one page being released every day. Once you hit about 40 pages, however, you’ll have to fork out for it. After 4 pages it appears to be an amusing tale. Those interested can check it out here.
