Paul Weitz Starts Production on Another Bulls—t Night in Suck City
Production has begun on Academy Award-nominated writer and director Paul Weitz’s (Little Fockers) untitled movie with two-time Academy Award winner Robert De Niro. The movie is based on Nick Flynn’s 2004 memoir entitled Another Bulls—t Night in Suck City.
De Niro has been joined in the cast by Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood), Spirit Award winner Dale Dickey (Winter’s Bone), Emmy Award nominee Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under), Olivia Thirlby (Juno), and four-time Academy Award nominee Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right).
The dramatic feature tells the story of a young writer, Nick (Dano), who takes a job at a homeless shelter. One night he discovers his long-absent father Jonathan (De Niro) seeking a bed. Moore portrays the writer’s mother Jody and Thirlby portrays Denise, a worker at the shelter.
From what I have heard about the Nick’s memoir, it is very emotional, ruefully funny, and powerfully moving. I hope Weitz can capture the essence of the book to honor Nick’s experiences as well as his father’s.
Weitz commented, “I’ve been working on this script for seven years, gone through 30 drafts, and I feel extremely lucky to be making this draft, with this cast, at this studio.”
