Sons of Anarchy Season Three DVD Review–Great Player Of The Faction Game
With the premiere episode of Season Four of Sons of Anarchy–all ninety minutes of it–about to hit FX, it’s definitely going to be worth our time to check out the recently launched box set of Sons of Anarchy Season Three. And frankly, from watching the third season, I’m not at all surprised there’s a fourth.
Sons of Anarchy Season Three joins us with everyone’s favorite biker gang, kicking off where the second season left off. Abel’s kidnapped, the Sons are neck-deep in fending off the drug crowd running rampant, the various other biker gangs like the Calaveras and the Mayans are making trouble for the Sons of Anarchy, and, well, there’s plenty of trouble going on within and without. We’ll be following the Sons of Anarchy as they cement their hold over the town of Charming and surrounding environs, putting paid to the rival gangs and attempting to hold their own positions.
What’s interesting on Sons of Anarchy in general, but more particularly Sons of Anarchy Season Three, is the factions. See, call it a personal bias, but I love faction drama. I love it when this bunch goes up against this bunch, or when a particularly crafty group or single party manages to pit one against the other. I love the occasional “against my better judgment” run where some group puts aside its differences. I loved Star Control and Master of Orion and the Saints Row series pretty much because of the faction play, and watching Sons of Anarchy play the faction game is a downright surprise. They’ll have a lot going on here at any given time, and you’ll need to do your best to keep up with it, but when you do, you’ll get a frightfully rewarding experience.
This isn’t just some kind of drama involving a biker gang. This is a really deep and involved drama involving several biker gangs and some politics besides. This is surprisingly complex stuff, and more than worthwhile. You may want to catch up with the previous seasons before walking right into the newest season, but still, whether you’re just getting started or have been there since the original nine, well, you’re probably going to have a bang-up time with Sons of Anarchy.
The Screenhead Ten Scale gives Sons of Anarchy Season Three a nine out of ten for presenting a spectacular, involved, and thoroughly rewarding drama up for us. It doesn’t look like it would be this good, but it is, every inch.
