PLAYING FOR CHANGE

Overview

“The act of playing music with people of different cultures, religions, economics and politics is a powerful statement.  It shows that we can find ways of working together and sharing our experiences with one another in a positive way.  Music has the power to break down the walls between cultures, to raise the level of human understanding.”  ~ Mark Johnson, founder, Playing for Change

My daughter and I sat down and watched the Playing for Change.  I was impressed at how Mark Johnson and his crew were able to mix all the performers from all over the world.  My daughter sat through all the songs reading off each country the performers were singing or playing instruments.  Playing for Change starts in Santa Monica, California and goes to Israel, Africa, Nepal, South America and it’s never ending, seamlessly.  The singer Bono joins in on the song called War/No More Trouble, which I believe, is the late Bob Marley song whose live performance is edited into the piece.

The clip appears a little daunting until Scrooge says, “I rather not.”  It might be too scary for kids.  Robert Zemeckis, the director, may tone it down after some feedback.

Chris Hemsworth, the Australian, who plays Captain James T. Kirk’s father, George Kirk in the latest Star Trek, is set to play Thor. Hemsworth will carry the mighty hammer in the upcoming film adaptation of Marvel Studio’s classic comic book series.

Hemsworth is quite popular in Australia, appearing in the TV series “Home and Away.”

Robert Louis Stevenson’s “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, is set to  be contemporized and titled “Jekyll and Hyde.”

Abel Ferrara is taking another walk on the wild side with a re-imagining of the classic with Forest Whitaker and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson are attached to play the lead roles in the classic tale about a doctor who invents a potion that unleashes his violent alter ego reported by Variety this week.

I can’t wait to see this film both Whitaker and 50 Cent as a combine talent will generate a formidable movie.

The new poster for Disney’s A Christmas Carol, directed by Robert Zemeckis, appeared on the Internet today.

Charles Dickens’ classic tale of an old miser, Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey), who must face Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, as they help to bring kindness to his otherwise cold heart. The Ghosts remind him of the man he used to be, the hard truth of what the world is today, and what will happen if he does not strive to be a better man. Set around Christmas, the most joyous day of the year, Scrooge realizes the sharp contrast of his own personality.

Carrey plays four separate roles in this updated version of A Christmas Carol. Carrey portrays Scrooge, as well as the three ghosts (Past, Present, and Future). His dynamic character roles keep the four characters as diverse as being played by four actors.

Catch a glimpse of Jack London’s classic short novel, Call of the Wild. Christopher Lloyd stars as a recently widowed man living in Montana who takes his young granddaughter Ryann (Ariel Gade) in for several weeks while her parents are out of the country. When a wild hybrid wolf/dog shows up injured on the back porch one night, Ryann wants to take him back to Boston as a pet, but her grandfather knows the animal will eventually have to return to the wild.

To help his granddaughter understand, he begins to read her Jack London’s “Call of the Wild” each night … but Ryann has ideas of her own, and helps a local boy train the magnificent animal to become a sled dog leader. Timothy Bottoms plays a dark-hearted local bully who tries to claim the dog as his own, and Wes Studi stars as a mysterious mountain man who always seems to appear on the fringe of the action.

What a glorious story with a twist that begins an adventure through the Bayou.  I want to see this movie. Some folks already have and reviews are popping up on the Internet. Sounds like another sure fire hit for Disney.
