It’s been ten years since Cher graced the silver screen as she gets ready to join Christina Aguilera in Burlesque, a contemporary musical with Steven Antin directing from a script he wrote.
Variety reports that Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town Iowa girl with a big voice who comes of age in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard that’s run by Tess (Cher), a former dancer who struggles to keep the club open and gives the young girl a chance to shine.
While we’ve heard Cher’s voice in many films, Burlesque will mark the first time that we will see her sing on the silver screen in a film she stars in. Tea With Mussolini in 1999 was her last starring role in film.
And yet another pop star makes the jump to the big screen, as Variety reports that singer Christina Aguilera hopes to make her silver screen debut in the contemporary musical Burlesque for Screen Gems.
She will play an ambitious small town girl with a big voice who finds love, family and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club.
The film was penned by Steven Antin, who is also directing the film. The script was later revised by Susannah Grant (Erin Brokovich). Filming starts later this year.
