I was just talking to a friend about Peter Weir’s The Mosquito Coast, starring Harrison Ford. I adore Peter Weir films like The Year of Living Dangerously or Gallipoli - he is a true filmmaker. The Way Back looks like another great film from Weir. The ensemble cast is stellar, including Ed Harris, Colin Farrell and Saoirse Ronan.
The Way Back is a true story about a very long trek that I am looking forward to seeing.
Three very talented actors have joined What’s Wrong with Virginia? Ed Harris, Emma Roberts and Amy Madigan are set to work with director and writer Dustin Lance Black, Oscar-winning screenwriter of Milk.
Harris is taking on the role that was attached to Liam Neeson. The role is a sheriff whose state senate bid lies on the line when his daughter begins to date the son of a psychologically disturbed woman with whomthe sheriff has been involved with a two-decade affair. Jennifer Connelly also stars in the title role.
Shooting of the film is schedule to start September 28, 2009 in Holland, Michigan.
Colin Farrell, Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess and Saoirse Ronan are all in final discussions to star for Peter Weir in The Way Back, a fact-based story of a group of soldiers who engineered a grueling escape from a Siberian gulag in 1942.
I love Weir’s style of making grueling movies. They are very calming with a relentless air of suspense and sorrow.
Weir wrote the script, based on the memoir by Slavomir Rawicz called “The Long Way.”
Farrell plays a tough, tattooed Russian; Harris an American; and Sturgess portrays a young Polish inmate. Ronan will play a Russian on the run who meets up with the fugitives.
Production is set to begin in March in Bulgaria. This is Weir’s next film since he directed 2003′s Master and Commander.
The Old West didn’t last long in history but it sure does in Hollywood. The good guys against the bad guys with a girlfriend in between. Looks like Ed Harris did an excellent job making a story about the Wild West. Enjoy the trailer!
Ed Harris directs as well as co-wrote with Robert Knott the film Appaloosa. The western is set in 1882 in the Old West territory of New Mexico. Appaloosa pivots around city marshal Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and his deputy and partner Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen), who made their status by keeping peace in the lawless towns springing up in the untamed land.In the small mining community of Appaloosa, a heartless, powerful rancher named Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons) allowed his band of outlaws to run roughshod over the town. After the cold-blooded murder of Appaloosa’s city marshal, Cole and Hitch are hired to bring the murderer to justice.
Cole and Hitch meet a stimulating and aggressive newcomer Allison French (Renee Zellweger), whose unconventional ways threaten to undermine their progress and to destroy the two lawmen’s decade-old partnership.
