Sometimes you just need a break. In most things in life, this actually holds true. Sometimes you just want to get away from anything–work, family, various stresses, and do those things you’ve always wanted to do, even if you may find out later that you don’t really enjoy them. That’s just what we’ll be tackling with Hall Pass, a copy of which the folks out at Warner Brothers sent out for us to review (and interestingly, part of a giveaway my able cohort Kenna is running right now).

Rick and Fred, two long-time best friends, aren’t happy with their lives, or their wives, and wish they were back out living it up as single guys have been known to do. Their wives, both out of sympathy and a desperate need to shut their hubbies up, hand them what they call a “hall pass” in which the guys get a full week of freedom from the marriage. No obligations, no grudges held, no questions asked. “Adultery” doesn’t even factor in, at least as far as the ladies are concerned. But when the guys get the chance they’ve been waiting for, what they may discover while taking their chance is a lot different than they were expecting.

This is actually a Farrelly Brothers movie, so look forward to lots of crass jokes and really uncomfortable moments. Lots of them. Seriously, like job lots. There’s absolutely no way you’re going to get around this. About half of the first half hour is going to be entirely crass jokes and awkward moments. The rest of the movie, meanwhile, will be well populated if not quite that dense. Watch for full-frontal male nudity…on at least two occasions.

It’s not going to be for everybody. In fact, it’s going to be for, basically, only people who can put up with Farrelly hijinks for any length of time. And this is going to be a full-bore Farrelly title. It’ll have its heartwarming moments, no mistake, and its clever patches, as well as its horrendous disaster moments and its cringing horrors and its uncomfortable stretches where you want nothing so much as to look away.

And if you can put up with the incredible awkwardness of it all, you’re going to have a fairly funny and a reasonably heartwarming excursion that is only occasionally unpleasant. You don’t want to know what happens to a young woman’s sneeze in a hotel bathroom…but let’s just say…it’s a good thing she was sitting on the edge of the bathtub when it happened.

The Screenhead Ten Scale gives the raucous, riotous, and often revolting Hall Pass a six out of ten, as both a way to give the Farrellys due credit for their high points, but as much to smack them down for wasting our time with more dick and fart jokes than anyone ever needed.

Bread Crumbs DVD cover says “Mama was wrong … some fairy tales are true in Bread Crumbs, a heart-pounding thriller.”

This movie is for horror hungry fans, and Screenhead held a giveaway of (5) Bread Crumbs DVDs. The horror story follows an aging star, Angie (Marianne Hagan, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Perfume), who reluctantly goes on one last shoot for a seedy, B-movie producer.

We have our lucky winners: Amber Gibson, Josh, digroz, Angela and Mike Metzler! Mike had the best comment out of all the winners saying, “I’m a horror nut!”  Well, Mike this movie is for horror nuts because it looks horrific and scary! Enjoy the movie folks and thanks for visiting Screenhead and entering the giveaway!

Now, a little bit about the movie in case those who didn’t win might want to buy or rent the movie.

On location – lodging in an enchanting, old cabin deep in the shadowy forest – the cast and crew encounter Henry (Dan Shaked, Counting to Infinity) and his little sister, Patti (Amy Crowdis, The Melancholy Fantastic), two odd children who mysteriously seem to live in the woods.

A violent attack on the second evening of shooting sends Angie, her handsome lead Billy (Steve Carey, Jack and Jill vs. the World) and the rest of the crew into a frightened frenzy. Barricading themselves in the secluded cabin, they are trapped by an unknown assailant and, one by one, being horrifically slaughtered.

Could these two children be responsible for such brutal slayings? A roller coaster ride to the terrifying conclusion, Bread Crumbs is a fairy tale of terror, the classic fable of Hansel & Gretel re-imagined. Eat the candy, if you dare! You can check out a decent review here.

Gala is our winner of Screenhead’s giveaway for Timmy Time: Timmy Steals the Show first-ever DVD from the all-new Preschool series on Playhouse Disney from the Oscar-winning creators of Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep! Gala won the Timmy Time DVD and Plush Toy!

Gala says, “My kids love it!”

Fans of the brilliant, Oscar-winning Aardman studios hit children’s series Shaun the Sheep will recognize Timmy as the baby lamb on the farm who is frequently drawn into all kinds of chaotic adventures by the mischievous older sheep. Used to having his way by being “the only lamb in the flock,” Timmy is now heading to preschool with a lot to learn about playing nicely with others, namely his fellow classmates of the furry, feathered and spiky types.

Preschoolers will find both familiarity and fun in Timmy and his friends’ hilarious everyday antics; spilled paint, dealing with beloved blankies and accidentally breaking a window while playing catch (OOPS!). The non-dialogue approach to storytelling and Aardman’s unique and endearing claymation-style animation is perfect for young viewers.
